Study Published in Health Affairs Journal Shows Impact of Produce Prescription Programs

CHICAGO — LCHC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Wayne Detmer, and Director of External Relations, Andrew Koetz, were two of the five authors of a recently published longitudinal study on Food as Medicine in the Health Affairs journal: Impacts of an Urban Farm-Anchored Produce Prescription Program on Weight Reduction. 

The study found that participation in LCHC and the Farm on Ogden’s VeggieRx program was associated with significant weight loss for patients with diet-related illnesses over a period of 18 months.  

The findings are significant in proving the effectiveness of Produce Prescription Programs (PPP) across the country, creating opportunities for funding and policy change.
