Founded on the principles of James 1:27, the James Fund was created to assist patients who are unable to contribute to their personal healthcare needs. Through this fund, patients are able to receive financial help toward prescriptions, bus fare and, on occasion, their medical visits. Due to your donations, patients are supported through a one-off voucher for service and can continue to receive care at Lawndale. 

LCHC’s Mobile Health Team (MHT) provides primary care services to a variety of permanent and temporary shelters across Chicago’s West Side for individuals experiencing homelessness. Patients can receive care free of cost at the shelter where they are living and be connected to a primary care provider at an LCHC clinic for long-term care.

In an area of Chicago that experiences a disproportionate number of deaths related to opioid use disorder, LCHC continues to invest in programs and services to treat substance use disorders and address the root causes of these health disparities. LCHC’s Substance Use Disorder Clinic addresses the healthcare and medication needs of patients. Recovery Community is a time and place where participants can connect, participate in fulfilling and therapeutic activities, and learn tools and skills to support them on their journey.  

Behavioral Health services allow patients the freedom to access psychological treatment that is integrated into their medical visits. Although brief, patients can receive assistance, healing and support during their medical visit despite not having access to or interest in traditional mental health care due to cost, stigma or trauma. From counseling groups to psychological testing clinics, our staff is committed to providing knowledge and creating an opportunity for patients to learn to better support their mental wellbeing.  

The Lawndale Summer Medical Project is a 4-5 week program in which 4th year college seniors that are pre-med/pre-midlevel and 1st year medical students have the opportunity to work alongside an LCHC clinician. This program allows students to learn and build skills in culturally sensitive care of patients, and working in a medically underserved community.

Each summer LCHC invites families to get excited to return to school in the fall with a block party full of music, food, games and prizes. Community organizations bring activities, resources, and giveaways for families. LCHC plans and promotes the event, and purchases school supplies to give away to every school-aged child who attends. LCHC staff volunteer their time to run the event. The Back to School Bash has become a community favorite for Lawndale and the surrounding neighborhoods.  

Each Fall, Lawndale Christian Health Center and Lawndale Christian Fitness Center host a 5K run/walk. With a majority of running races in the city of Chicago taking place in downtown or on the north side, LCHC is proud to host one of the few organized races on the West Side. The Lawndale 5K has music, raffle prizes, snacks, games, and a community resource fair for families. The Lawndale 5K is one of the ways LCHC promotes holistic wellness.

The City of Chicago has received a large influx of migrants recently, particularly from Central and South America. Having finished a long and treacherous journey and now in a new country with language and other cultural barriers, many migrants are in dire need of medical care ranging from vaccinations to prenatal care. Supporting this fund allows them to receive the immediate care they need regardless of ability to pay, and is a direct application of LCHC’s mission to love God and love people.

Support Lawndale Christian Fitness Center’s Recreational Sports Leagues! Various team sports are offered throughout the year to the community to partake in fun, fitness and fellowship. All sporting events are co-ed, with games taking place within the community. Donations will support the cost of field/court rentals, referee fees, equipment, shirts, awards, and more. These Rec Leagues encourage healthy and active lifestyles in the Lawndale community.

Support the future of medicine on Chicago’s West Side by donating to the construction costs of LCHC’s Teaching Health Center. Every donation toward this project will be matched! The development of the Teaching Health Center will address health and medical provider shortages within the community and create opportunities for employment in the area. This space will provide clear career pathways for trainees at every level, including medical assistants, nursing staff, and residents enrolled in LCHC’s own Family Medicine Residency. Equipped with 35 exam rooms, lecture halls, and additional communal spaces, the Teaching Health Center will provide primary care and specialty services to a growing community.
