LCHC Awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award
February 13, 2012 - Lawndale Christian Health Center was awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Outstanding Non-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project at The Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards (CNDA).
The award was given for our newest building at 3750 W Ogden Avenue, the Health & Fitness Center. The beautiful new building not only enhances the neighborhood visually, but also the opportunities for health & wellness by increasing our capacity for medical visits and fitness center memberships in our expanded space and offering delicious and healthy foods with local flavor in our cafe. As noted at the ceremony:
"The 60,000-square-foot facility reflects a renewed neighborhood focus on wellness. Equipped with more than 100 fitness machines, the center's main floor features an indoor track, areas for group fitness and youth exercise classes and free personalized exercise and weight loss programs. Upper floors feature 30 medical exam rooms... and 17 dental bays. The expanded facility is expected to allow over 300,000 medical visits and 20,000 dental visits annually.
The lobby includes a cafe with healthy food options for visitors to enjoy year-round. In addition, rooms are available for the Centering Pregnancy program and Centering Parenting discussion groups. The Health & Fitness Center, which meets the city's Sustainable Development Policy by fulfilling Green Roof and LEED certifications guidelines, was erected on a long-vacant block of Ogden Avenue."
