8th Annual Lawndale 5K Scheduled for September 26, 2015

Press Release | July 21st, 2015

Lawndale Christian Fitness Center’s 8th annual Lawndale 5K Walk/Run in North Lawndale, Chicago is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th, 2015. The Lawndale 5K is a fun, family-friendly event for the entire community. Proceeds from this year’s 5K will support LCHC programs that combat childhood obesity, empowering kids to live healthy lives.

North and South Lawndale have some of the highest rates of overweight or obese children in the nation. According to studies[1], South Lawndale, a community that Lawndale Christian Health Center serves, has the highest rates of overweight and obese children in the entire city.

The Lawndale 5K is the only community-wide race in the Lawndale neighborhood. “The original vision was to raise money while promoting active living outside of the fitness center and bringing people together,” says Brian Gannon, Director of Lawndale Christian Fitness Center. Last year, there were over 1,000 race participants from North Lawndale and the Little Village area.

Registration is $20 and participants get a free tech shirt. Volunteers are also needed. To learn more about the Lawndale 5K and register online, visit
